Check these first

The guide walks through every step in full, and the FAQ answers the common questions at more length.

Four things to check before you write, each with the chapter of the guide that covers it, then six short answers from the FAQ.

  • The agent’s own tool must be installed and on your PATH.

MaeVae bundles no agent; it drives the command-line tool you install. If a tool is not installed, MaeVae shows “(not installed)” next to it and cannot start a pane for it.

  • Logins do not carry over between profiles.

A new profile gets its own isolated configuration, so it starts without another profile’s login. Sign in inside its pane, with the agent’s own login, or set an API key in the profile’s editor. aider has no login: its API key, set in the profile, is its account. The one exception is a Claude profile made with Use my existing Claude login, which shares the login you already have.

  • Codex and Gemini CLI need a trust step.

Take it inside the agent. Codex asks again when MaeVae’s hook text changes, for example after an update. Gemini CLI asks once per project folder. Until then, the agent’s pane does not light up when it needs you.

  • A full backup is made only when you ask.

Quick settings writes a zip or a folder of your MaeVae data to a place you choose, and restores it, including on another machine. Account logins and API keys go in only if you tick them. There is no cancel once a backup starts.

Short answers from the FAQ

What to put in a message

  • Your version of Windows. Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • Your version of MaeVae. It is on the About line at the foot of Quick settings.
  • The agent and the feature. Which agent the pane runs (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, aider, Grok or the plain shell), and which part of MaeVae, such as a profile, the HUD, the attention queue, a backup or a Windows Terminal tab.
  • What you did, and what happened. The steps you took, in order, and what you saw. Copy any message on the screen word for word.
  • The Isolation report, for a question about a profile. The next section shows where to copy it.

Never send a login, a token or an API key. Before you paste text from a pane or attach a picture of the screen, check it for logins, tokens and keys, and take them out.

Rendered example: the message that “Write to support” opens, with these lines filled in where your mail program allows it.

The most useful thing to paste: the Isolation report

For a question about a profile, its Isolation report shows what MaeVae checked and what it found, rule by rule: the profile’s own folders, anything inside them that points outside, the vendor’s account channel, and anything that appeared that you never approved.

  1. Click Isolation in the pane’s header. The report opens in the pane’s place.
  2. Click Copy. The report goes on the clipboard as plain text, and a note under it says Report copied.
  3. Paste it into your message.

The same report is in the profile’s editor, in its Isolation section, behind Show report, with the same Copy button.

The report, with its Copy button, is rendered on the home page: the Isolation report, rendered.

Read it before you send it. It lists the paths of the folders it checked, which show your Windows user name and the names of your project folders, and the names and commands of what it found, such as plugins, servers and hooks. Take out anything you would rather not share, and any login, token or key.

For a security problem, write to security@maevae.com.

Security reports go to their own address and are answered whatever your plan. As in any message, leave out logins, tokens and API keys.
